Boxing is back. It looks like the Omar Shriner’s Temple on Patriot’s Point is going to be a regular venue for a while.  With a new promoter, Richie Boy Entertainment, the monthly fights are bringing in some good talent.  I saw Jim Kelly walking around, but the event seemed to be emphasizing Richie Boy Entertainment.  The most promising fights I saw were from the Mitchell brothers (twins) and Michael Oliviera.  All three were exceptional fighters and I hope to see some good line-ups for them in the future.

An energetic but unsuccessful effort by Tim Hansen was a crowd favorite. From the boxing program:

“Tim Hansen, the new kid on the block, makes his pro debut in front of his hometown fans and across the street from the playing field of his old school. Tim is a graduate of the College of Charleston (Masters Degree in Mathematics) and spends his days as an actuary for the Department of Insurance and his evenings training for the ring.”

Here’s some shots from that night:

One of the quickest fights of the night went to Michael Oliviera (right), who took out Kevin Bartlet and won by TKO.

Eric Mitchell (left) overwhelmed Marteze Logan and won by TKO because Logan “failed to answer the bell” from his corner.

Tony Roman (right) knocked out Anthony Reese in the final fight. Ringside medics were called in, but Reese later walked out on his own.
