I actually like hippies. They’re positive, idealistic, and they smile a lot. But some of the people who hang out with them are just looking to get wasted. Hippies generally favor altered states of mind, so they know where to get bags of mind-benders. The meathead leeches know this, so they hang around waiting to get something passed to them. It’s a shame because that usually brings Paranoia to the tree-folk who don’t understand why gel-haired jock-guy is staring at them.

I saw a few of those dudes at last night’s show at the Pour House. I stepped out a few times to smoke (tobacco, I rarely burn the herb these days) and saw the same crew of $40 t-shirt lamers. I don’t think they even came inside to watch the bands. Why did you guys pay $12 to hang out on the smoking deck at the Pour House?

They really missed out, because Toubab Krewe put on a great show. I got there pretty early, so I got to see Jar-e do their whole set. I can’t say I was all that impressed. They ran at one basic tempo and the horns didn’t do a whole lot. Decently played, but ultimately boring.

Toubab Krewe delivered a tightly played and energetic afropop performance to a packed crowd. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of that type of music, but I always like to see people who are the best at what they do. Also, trying to critique something that got all those people hyped and happy is futile.

So, here’s some shots and a short video for you to see for yourself:
