After slaving away at the computater getting you good folks everything you needed to know about the festival, I needed a break from everything Spoleto. Just in time arrived the last Thursday of the month, which means fight night at the Plex. It promised to be a visceral antidote to the artsy frivolity of the past few weeks.

It was a fantastic night and I had a great time shooting it. It’s been eight years since I shot boxing (Biloxi, MS, in another life). The action was quick and I had to scramble to keep up. I quickly relearned an old sports photog saying “If you saw it happen, you missed the shot”. So, I spent the rest of the night making sure I never saw anything happen.

Not all fights yielded great pics, but here’s some choice ones below:

robertduntonvschriscook2.jpgRobert Dunton starts with a bang.
robertduntonvschriscook.jpg Chris Cook answers.
robertduntonvschriscook3.jpg And Dunton takes it home, winner by unanimous decision.

henrydukesvsvincentrobbins.jpg Vincent Robbins tags Henry Dukes, TKO

Brad Binder’s 1st round KO of Leo Hayes proved too swift for me. No decent pics.

darretcrockettvsedwardpared.jpgHere’s Darrett Crockett giving it all.

edwardparedesvsdarrettcrock.jpgOnly to get answered with this from Edward Paredes, 2nd round KO.

throwinginthetowel.jpgThe final fight of the night was between to huge bruisers, Kevin Burnette and Shareff Dickens. Dickens tried hard but was saved by a rare towel throw in(apparently because of a broken hand) by his trainer Mel Cooke. Shareff was not happy about that, as seen here.
